--Prologue—
Some say that twilight is the time when our eyes play tricks on us… Some say that twilight is the time when the supernatural come alive. Others say that twilight is just a time of day. None of these are true, and I can tell you why: Twilight was a wolf. He was strong, and brave. He was kind to me, he was my one true love. I will never love anyone else. Never. But… Why is there a need to love someone? I could never figure this out… Love is just a worthless emotion that shatters you. It breaks you down when that loved one dies. And that’s what happened to me. Twilight died, saving me. He died when he pushed me out of the way so the elk wouldn’t kick my head. Instead of kicking mine, it kicked his, crushing his skull and killing him instantly. I can still remember the agony tearing my heart apart as I walked away from him… My mate. Walking away from everything, from my life, from my heart… From all feeling. I will never feel again. Not in a hundred years. Nobody will ever make me feel anything again. Emotion weakens you, emotion is for the weak. And I will not be weak… I will be strong, even if that means blocking out all feeling from my mind forever. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
--Chapter One—
“Scout, Scout, wake up you sleepy head!” I opened my eyes lazily, “Twilight? What’s the rush?” Twilight laughed, his kind hazel eyes smiling at me, “Nothing! I’m just tired of watching you sleep like that!” He tossed his silver-gray head. I sighed at my mate, I loved him, sure enough, but sometimes he could get annoying. Of course, that’s what I loved about him, I loved everything about Twilight. His laugh, his eyes, his smile, the sound of his voice… I got up and stretched, looking around groggily. It was amazing how different the land could look if it was in a different light… Just the night before, everything had been dark and shadowy, just the night before, I had whimpered in my sleep… But now everything was filled with sunshine, sunshine and happiness. “Okay,” I said, “So where are we going now?” “Hunting,” Twilight answered, “Although you’ll have to be careful, after all, we don’t want to hurt our pups. I felt his gaze fall upon my furry stomach, I smiled, “Yes,” I said, “We should go hunting.”
I woke up breathing hard. My heart ached for Twilight, ached for my pups… Who were now dead, like they’re father. They had come too early, when spring was barely just a thaw, and they had frozen to death. I heart seemed to shriek as it beat, shriek with pain. But I ignored it, To be strong I must not feel. I reminded myself. My stomach growled, I ignored that too, I needed water first… Water and… Twilight, whispered a voice in my mind. Twilight. I shook my head, Go away, I thought, I won’t let you weaken me. Twilight is dead – I forced myself to think the word – And so are the pups. I’m on my own… I am a mindless animal, who does not think or feel. I am strong. No you’re not, Whispered the voice in my head, You’re being weak, by allowing yourself to be reduced to this state. Shut up and go away! I thought angrily, and started running. Running in no particular direction, walking the path I was destined to walk… Walking away in nothingness. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
It was not possible. How could it have happened? How could Twilight be dead…? SHUT UP! I screamed to myself, Stop thinking! You have to be strong…! You have to not feel. TwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilightTwilight… STOP. IT. RIGHT. NOW. I thought, Just stop, I can’t do this… No… I CAN do this… I WILL do this… But the memory of his face came, the memory of his smile, his eyes, his voice. NO! I stopped in my tracks, what was the point of all this? What was the point of feeling all this pain, and then trying to stop it? Why not just cover of the pain with something else…? I looked at a tree, and then without thinking, started running towards it. I didn’t stop, I didn’t even hesitate, I slammed into its trunk and groaned as pain blazed through my body. At least I couldn’t feel the pain for Twilight. It was all physical pain now, and it was all my brain could think about. It was all I could feel, and although it was agonizing, it was pleasant too… I was free. All I had to do was run into a tree now and then. Sure there were better ways of ventilating my pain, sure, I could hurt myself, but it worked, and that’s all that mattered. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
My run-into-tree-plan was working. Physical pain covered up the emotional pain. It masked it, made it so I couldn’t feel anything in my heart. I could get killed if I hit the tree wrong, but I didn’t care. If I died, I would be with Twilight. I drank water from the shallow puddle, and looked down at my reflection. I saw my stormy gray eyes looking back at me, unusual for a wolf, but possible, there was a tint of gold around the edges, but the majority of my eyes were stormy gray. I saw my red-gold fur in the sunlight. Getting darker around my should and paws, each hair tipped with a rich, dark brown, giving me a cinnamon effect. I saw the bitter heartbreak in my stormy gray eyes… I saw the utter pain. I looked away, I couldn’t take it anymore… I couldn’t take living anymore, I couldn’t do this… My impact with the tree was harder than all the others. Agony blazed through my veins, flashing through my heart and into my head. My head was throbbing, my leg was in agony, as was my right side. I had probably broken some bones. But I didn’t care, I didn’t have to feel… I didn’t care that I was probably going to die, I didn’t care that I was giving up everything, or rather, nothing. I didn’t care that I had been reduced to this state. I didn’t care anymore. Slowly, I closed my stormy gray eyes, and drifted away, not caring whether I lived or not. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ..................◊
--Chapter Two—
“Scout, come on!” Said Twilight, “We should keep going.” I was tired, the pups wouldn’t come for another couple months, but just carrying them around in my stomach made me tired, “Maybe… We shouldn’t be hunting,” I said. “Nonsense!” Said Twilight, “We’ll rest once we get there, and then we can bring an elk down, together.” He came and thrust his muzzle into my cheek. I sighed at his touch, Gosh, I loved him so. I finally nodded, “Okay, but we’ll have to be careful.” We kept walking and then we came to the elk hunting grounds. “Scout, you should rest, I’ll pick out the weakest one.” I nodded and smiled tiredly. “Okay,” I said. I rested, until I caught my breath. Then I stood up and said to my mate, “I’m ready to go, have you figured out which one is the weakest?” Twilight nodded, “Yep. It’s actually the bull, he’s got a bad limp in his left hind leg.” I looked at him quizzically, “The bull? Wouldn’t attacking him be kind of a bad idea?” Twilight shrugged, “Maybe, but all the others look healthy. Besides, you need food for the pups, and I’m hungry too. It’s our only chance.” What my mate said was true, we’d barely had any food for ages, and the pups were likely to be born small and probably not survive unless I found more soon. Finally I nodded, “Okay, we’ll try and get the bull. Let’s go.” Big mistake.
Pain… Agony… Burning fire in my hind right leg… It hurt so much… I… I was drifting away… I closed my eyes and fell into the abyss.
I leapt after the bull elk, growling and snarling the way a wolf does when they’re starving, and close to bring their kill down. It was hard, running like that, especially when I was with-pups. I pushed myself harder so I could reach the elk, so I could reach it’s haunches and rake me claws across them, even if they were blunt. I was determined to get food for my pups. I was determined to survive. I leapt at the bull elk, my hind legs pumping, and I closed my jaws on its side, feeling its warm blood flood my mouth. The metallic taste of blood made me go faster, it made me more desperate for food, more desperate to survive. I heard Twilight’s paw-steps behind me, I heard him snarling as he streaked ahead of me and the elk, so he was forcing the bull elk back towards me. I leapt at the elk again, clawing its side with my blunt claws, it grunted in pain and lashed out at me with its hoof, I dodged those deadly toes and then snapped at its hindquarters. It tried to kick me again, and I danced aside, taunting it. Suddenly there was a cry of, “Scout! Watch out!” I glanced towards Twilight, he was running towards me, silver-gray fur waving in the wind, and he slammed into me and knocked me aside. “What was that for –” There was a shriek of pain, and I saw Twilight fall to the ground, his head bleeding. “TWILIGHT!” I screamed. But it was too late, his skull had been crushed, he was dead. Blood was pooling from the wound, dark and shadowy liquid. The substance that kept us all alive. Twilight was gone, dead. He had faded away. I was alone. I had been left to Fade.
I was breathing hard, but I could hardly keep my eyes open. I was drifting away. I was fading, soon I would disappear completely… I would die… I was dying, I knew that causing myself pain wasn’t a good idea… But I didn’t care… I was dying… But I didn’t care… Slowly, everything started to go black.
When I woke up, my vision was blurry. I saw something… it was a face. Black, with amber eyes. I did my best to look down, but my eyes were slowly starting to close again. No! I thought furiously, I won’t give in! I opened my eyes wider and saw the face clearly, it was a male, with jet-black fur and bright amber eyes, his chest was gray, but I couldn’t tell what the rest of him looked like. “Ugh,” I groaned, “Who are you?” The wolf smiled at me in a caring way, “My name is Shun,” he said, “Yours?” My name… my name… Umm… Uh… “Umm-Uh?” Asked Shun, “That’s your name?” I shook my head and winced as I realized that hurt. “Scout,” I muttered. “My name is Scout.” And then I closed my stormy gray eyes and drifted off into the unconscious world once more. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .....................◊
--Chapter Three—
“Scout? Scout? Wake up!” What…? No… Don’t… want to… I opened my stormy gray eyes and looked at Shun’s dark face. His bright amber eyes were concerned and I could barely see them… My vision was so blurry. No… I don’t want to… Don’t make me… “What?” I asked groggily. “Scout,” Shun said, “You’re leg…” I looked at my red-gold leg, it was twisted and bent at an odd angle. It hurt badly. But I barely noticed the pain. “It’s broken,” I said, it wasn’t a question. Shun nodded, “I should have set it properly so it heals, but I guess I didn’t really want to hurt you.” I shrugged, it was sort of sweet, the way he said it, but I knew he only cared for me as a friend. “Just set it,” I mumbled, and went back to sleep.
“No… No… NO! Twilight, nooooooo!” I was screaming his name, while staring at his body, broken and bleeding. I bit my lip, causing it to bleed. But I didn’t care. I walked away, feeling empty, bitter, sad, heartsick, and broken. Just like Twilight was.
Pain woke me from the dream. I screeched in pain immediately, and Shun stopped shoving my leg with his muzzle. “OW.” “Did I hurt you? Nevermind, that was a dumb question.” “Of course you hurt me,” I muttered, “Just keep doing it, I’ll try to shut up.” Shun flashed me a gentle smile, and started shoving my broken leg again. I gritted my teeth as agony lanced up my leg, up my back, and into my brain. THINK. OF. TWILIGHT. I thought furiously, DO. NOT. LET. YOUR…SELF. FEEL. THE. PAIN. I paused in my angry thoughts, and continued to scream at myself. DO. NOT. BE. WEAK. You’re weak, you’re weak, you’re weak… Whispered a tiny voice in the back of my head. NO. I’M. NOT. You’reweakyou’reweakyou’reweak… NO! NOW SHUT UP AND LET ME THINK! Shun gave my leg a final shove and I groaned weakly. He glanced at me, and said: “I think it’s not so bad now. I can’t say that it’s perfect but when it heals you should be able to walk. It’s hard because my paws are useless when it comes to being precise…” I grinned wryly in a weak way, “I know. Our paws aren’t very mobile.” “Sleep, Scout. You need your rest.” I nodded sleepily, all the pain had tired me out. Slowly, I let the darkness take me away. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
When I woke, I saw that Shun was talking to another wolf. I looked at the newcomer. He was large, even for a male, and had blazing amber eyes. His fur was the blackest black had ever seen. He was well muscled, or so I thought, it was hard to see underneath his thick black fur, but seeing as he was so large for a wolf… I was pretty sure I was right. He was strong, I could easily see that, and he looked like he could run for a long time, for hours on end. He looked strong, fierce, and… Like he was angry about something. Like he had lost something – or someone – and that he blamed himself for it. Like he thought his heart could no longer be trusted, like if he did trust it, even for a couple second, it would deceive him and he would only hurt more. I know how he feels, I thought. The wolf whipped his head around to look at me, “What?” He asked. His voice was deep and strong. I could sense the bitterness in it, but I sensed what once might have been kindness. What did I say? I wondered. “What did you say?” Repeated the wolf, his blazing amber eyes were questioning. “N-nothing,” I stammered, “I… didn’t say anything.” “Yes you did,” the wolf said, “I heard you say it.” But I didn’t say anything… “What did I say then?” I asked. For a moment, I glanced at Shun, he looked slightly uncomfortable. The wolf looked agitated and embarrassed at the same time, like he didn’t want to talk about it. “Tell you later.” I shrugged, and winced as I realized that moving my shoulders like that caused a barely noticeable movement in my legs, and it hurt. The wolf looked at me strangely, as though the fact that I was hurting, hurt him too. That’s impossible, I thought. He can’t feel anything for me, he hardly even knows me. I watched the wolf pad back to Shun and start talking to him again. I wonder what his name is. I thought, It’ll probably be something hunky. I mean, most guys want names like that. I laughed to myself, but it was a bitter laugh, a laugh without any happiness or joy. The wolf looked at me strangely again, he looked like he felt sorry for me, in fact, I knew it was, it was written all over his face. Then I got angry, I don’t want your pity! I snarled to him mentally. I don’t want you to feel sorry for me! I seethed with anger, until I got tired out, and fell back into the abyss that was becoming my home. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
When I woke, Shun was sleeping, the moon was bright, and the stars shone; little dots of light in the sky, taunting me with they’re happiness. I looked around for the strange wolf I had spoken to earlier, he was gone… Or at least I thought so, until I saw his blazing amber eyes, reflecting the moonlight. “What do you want?” I asked weakly. “What happened to your leg?” Asked the wolf. Great, I thought, I love it when someone answers a question with a question. “I broke it.” “How?” I bristled, annoyed with this wolf, “I hit a tree.” “Willingly? That sounds like a stupid thing to do,” the wolf said disdainfully, but I still saw the pity in his eyes. “What do you know about my life?” I snarled. The wolf didn’t flinch at my tone, like most wolves would have. Instead, he said, “Maybe I know more than you think.” “Like what?” I challenged. The black wolf shrugged and said, “You’re alone.” The way his voice sounded, it was like he knew exactly how I felt. When he said ‘alone,’ he meant really alone. Not physically, I wasn’t alone with Shun around, but mentally and emotionally. Lost. Forgotten. Fading. I knew immediately that this wolf was very skilled at reading other wolf’s emotions, by studying they’re voice, expression, they’re eyes. I was silent, what could I say? Finally, I came up with a comeback, “What do you know about me?” The wolf shrugged again, and a unbearable sadness came into his eyes as he started to speak, “I can tell that you’re alone… That someone you love is dead.” I snarled, “What makes you think that?” The wolf looked away, “It’s written in your eyes, it’s inked into your voice, it imprinted into your expression.” I bristled, “Leave me alone.” The wolf sighed, “But what really let me know, was what you said earlier.” “Which was what?” I asked in a hostile voice. “’I know how he feels,’” the wolf said softly, “You read me like a book, you knew almost right away…” No I didn’t. I didn’t know anything about him, except that he was sad and lonely. “I said that out loud?” I asked. The wolf nodded, “You were talking to yourself. I could hear every word, but it was those words that set me off. It was those words that made me realize… That you’re just like me.” “No I’m not.” My voice was sharp, biting, pain filled. “I’m nothing like you.” The wolf laid down a couple feet away from me, “Yes you are,” he whispered. “No I’m not, I’m weak. I feel.” The wolf’s amber eyes started to blaze, “That only proves it. Emotion makes you weak. The heart is deceptive, it will trick you into loving someone, and then it will take them away from you. That’s my past. And I’ll never tell you more.” To hear those words from a wolf that I hardly knew, to know I agreed with him, to know that I thought the heart was a trickster who would break you, to know that I thought feeling anything made you weak. I suddenly realized that I was wrong. That he was wrong, that everything I had done, everything I had done to hurt myself, was just plain unnatural. Not only was I going against my instincts, I was going against the laws of nature. I didn’t know what this wolf had done, I didn’t know what had happened to make him this way, but I knew that I had to teach him the right way, before it was too late for him. And I had to teach myself to heal, before it was too late for me. “Who are you?” I asked. The wolf smiled, but it wasn’t really a smile, it was filled with bitter pain and horrid anger. “I go by many names, to some, I am ‘son,’ to others, I was ‘mate,’ or ‘love.’ But my name? My name is Fade. And that is truly what I am, a faded shadow, of who I used to be.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ...................◊

Okay then, here are the next ones. =)
—Chapter Four— Yeah, sure, whatever. My leg was broken. It hurt. I couldn’t move, Fade and Shun were talking all day. While I just sat there and tried to look dignified. Finally, it was night time, and I was dying to ask Fade some questions. Fade sat down a couple feet away from me, his amber eyes were already blazing. I shrunk away from him, did he always have to be so scary? “Fade,” I said softly, “Do you truly believe that… T-that emotion makes you weak?” Fade drew his lips back in a half-smile half-snarl. “Emotion is a weakness,” he said in a low voice, “If you feel, you are weak. If you teach yourself to block everything out… Then you are strong. Because emotion will not interfere with your when you are in need of strength.” “What happened to you?” I whispered. Fade growled at me, “Scout, I will never tell you of what happened to me. I learned a lesson the hard way… If I had not felt in the first place, then I would not be as weak as I am now.” Now it was my turn to snarl, “Fade, don’t you see? Emotion can be a weakness, but it can be a strength too!” I paused to let the full force of my words sink in. “Emotion is the very being of us! If we do not feel… Then what are we? Emotion is what makes us wolves! If we do not feel… Then we are only a body possessed by the wills of nature. And the wolf does not deserve to be enslaved by its instincts. We live to feel… And if we do not feel, then there is no point in living.” Where did that come from? I wondered, Since when do I wise-crack almost complete strangers? But he’s not a stranger… Whispered a voice in my head. He is no stranger. Fade looked away, “I don’t care what you say. If I feel, then I am weak. I will not be weak… Not again.” I snarled, baring my white teeth, my stormy gray eyes started to blaze. “You don’t understand! I lost my mate. I will never let go of that, but I will heal – I have to. That’s how I broke my leg, I was trying to distract myself – but I learned! Once I saw you… Once I knew that what I was doing was unnatural, I knew I had to learn to heal! And you do too, otherwise… It might be too late. “I could have killed myself,” I continued, “It was stupid, and dangerous. I went against my instincts, I tried to force myself not to feel… But seeing you – you! – Seeing how you have tought yourself not to feel at all, how you have actually succeeded in becoming one who does not feel. I am glad that I have not become what you are,” I spat the words out at him, trying to be harsh, trying to make him see, “Because if I was, then I’d be a weakling. Just. Like. You.” Fade leapt to his feet and snarled at me, he padded forwards, a dangerous light in his blazing amber eyes. Fear coursed through me as I realized I could hardly run or fight. And Fade was so large… Especially since I was laying down, and he was standing above me. I saw his silhouette against the moon, I saw the moonlight dappling his jet-black fur, edging his silhouette with silver. I took a sharp intake of breath as I realized that he truly did look like a ‘faded shadow.’ “Fade…” I said warningly, getting ready to scream. There was a murderous glare in his eyes. He lowered his head, opening his jaws slightly. I saw sharp white canines in the darkness, I saw the blazing fury in his eyes. “It is those who feel who are weak,” he said in a low voice. He whipped around, his dark fur bristling, and walked away, disappearing into the night like the faded shadow he said he was. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ...................◊
I didn’t see Fade for a long time after that. I expected him to come back… But he didn’t. He stayed away, and I knew that it was my words that had driven him from me. I knew that it was my fault. I told myself that I didn’t care if that angry, bitter wolf left my life forever, that I didn’t care if he died… But I did. I cared about Fade, I didn’t want to admit it, but I did. I didn’t want him to die. He had taught me what I was doing was wrong… Just by being there and displaying that pain and bitterness before me. Fade had taught me how to be strong. While he himself had stayed weak. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ........................◊
—Chapter Five—
The time passed. Not quickly, but not really slowly either. Shun and I quickly became close friends. He was a good, caring wolf, who knew what I needed, and when. We often talked about random things, our pasts, stories about wolves we’d known, wolves we still knew. It was late at night when Shun told me about his mate. My leg was almost healed, I would soon be able to walk, perhaps within a week or so. I didn’t know how many suns had passed, but it had been many.
“My mate’s name was Nera,” Shun said quietly, his kind voice was soothing, even to me. “She was beautiful, pure white with tinges of silver, almost like she was a ghost.” I leaned in towards him, totally entranced in the story already. “We met in a cold winter, a while ago. We decided to travel together, for company in that winter was rare, and hunting was easier when you weren’t alone.” Shun’s voice was quiet still, but his eyes showed a fierce passion that came out at the mention of Nera. “We traveled for a long time together, and even when spring came late, we did not part, for by then we were close friends.” I nodded, listening carefully to Shun’s story. “We kept going… Eventually we fell in love and I asked her to be my mate. I was so happy when she accepted.” Shun’s smiled was kind and gentle in the dark as he seemed to remember Nera’s face, “We were so happy together, and we stayed that way for a year. Then she was with-pups. I was so happy when I found out I was going to have children… But she died before they were born. A disease swept through the area, I didn’t get it, but she did…” I looked at him sadly, “That’s… awful.” Shun looked at me, his eyes were sad, but they were happy too as he remembered his loved one. “It’s okay, it was a while ago… I still miss her, but I’ve learned to move on.” Unlike me, I thought to myself. Twilight… I could still remember his face, the kindness in his eyes. I missed him so much… It made me sad to know I would no longer be able to see him, to hear his voice… But I had to heal. I had to, or I would become just as cold and bitter as Fade. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .....................◊
Finally, after so long, I was able to walk. My leg hadn’t healed perfectly, but it was near perfect, thanks to Shun. “Take it easy,” my friend warned, “We don’t need you straining a muscle so soon after you are able to walk.” It was late autumn, the leaves were turning into different colours, ranging from brown, to red, to gold, to yellow, to orange, and every colour in between. I stretched my leg slowly, wincing as cramped up muscles began to “un-cramp.” I took a step, my leg was still supporting my weight… And another… And another… Finally, I moved my formerly broken leg a step. No pain. It had healed, I could walk! Yes! I thought, Maybe there is something positive in my life! I walked slowly, grinning like a maniac. “Umm… Scout?” Shun said. I turned to him, grinning still. “Yeah?” “You look sort of like a psychopath…” I grinned even wider, “A psychopath who hasn’t been able to walk in who knows how long.” Shun shrugged, his face breaking into a smile, “Whatever you wish, Scout. I’m just glad your happy.” My maniac grin slowly turned into a gentle smile, and I was glad that Shun had come into my life… But still I wondered if I would ever see Fade again. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
--Chapter Six—
It was when Shun and I were hunting that I met her. I was chasing the rabbit, lagging slightly behind Shun, as my leg was still getting used to being in action again. I was frustrated, I hated not being able to run, I was so used to pushing myself to my limits... And here I was, lagging behind. Finally, I gave up. Shun was too far ahead, I would never be able to keep up with him. But I tried anyways. But I thrust myself forwards, feeling my paws thudding against the ground, Must keep... going. I thought to myself, I have to keep going. Something moved behind me. It was black, I whipped around, thinking of Fade, but there was nothing there. Then, a dark shadow emerged from the bushes. She was sleek, lithe in form, like an elegant she-wolf made of the shadows themselves. Her fur was pitch black, not a hair of white on her, nothing lighter – save the smokey gray colour on her front right paw. She wasn’t exactly built for fighting, but I could tell she was smart, and that was how she beat her opponents. Her eyes were a dark, burning amber that seemed to hold a thousand secrets, I wondered what they were. “Who are you?” I asked sharply, thinking of my leg, and how it was unlikely I would be able to beat her if it came to a fight... My stormy gray eyes flashed dangerously. “Melody,” the wolf said quietly in her graceful demeanor. I looked her over, was it possible that I had interpreted her personality wrong? Before she had seemed like a harsh warrior, hardened by many battles... Like she had known death, just as I had. But now she seemed calm, graceful... Innocent, like a graceful shadowy spirit that floated through the air. I looked at her, scrutinizing her. Melody... I had heard the name somewhere... Somebody had mentioned it to me... But I wasn’t sure who. “What is your name?” She asked, still keeping her calm attitude. “Scout,” I answered, “And don’t tell me that that’s supposed to be a boy name... That’s what my mate always told me.” “He died?” Melody asked softly, “That is... sad.” I nodded, “It wasn’t long ago...” Just then, Shun came padding into view. His eyes flashed as he saw Melody, “Who’s this, Scout?” Melody looked at me questioningly, I could tell she thought that Shun was my mate. No, I mouthed to her. She nodded, and I answered my friend’s question, “Her name’s Melody... She just sort of turned up.” Melody nodded, smiling in that calm way, “Yeah, I sort of sprang up on Scout here.” She looked at me, her dark amber eyes burning with something... Curiosity. What does she wish to know? I wondered. “May I travel with you too...? I’m actually looking for someone, but I don’t see why I can’t stay with you two for a while...” Melody’s soft voice was light, calm, melodious. Shun looked at me, “Scout?” He asked, “What do you think?” I looked back at him, surprised, Since when am I the leader? “I think it’s fine,” I said, grinning, “The more wolves... The better.” Shun nodded, “Makes sense, especially after Fade disappeared.” I narrowed my stormy gray eyes, Don’t remind me, I thought. I looked at Melody, “Don’t get the idea I’m leader,” I warned, “I don’t need to make decisions for everyone... And Shun knows that the ones I make aren’t always the best. But not as bad as Fade’s... My thought was grim. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ....................◊
The three of us got along, just fine. But my memories of Melody’s name still haunted me. I knew I had heard that name before... Someone had mentioned it to me... But I couldn’t remember who, or when. I ignored the haunting feeling I got in her presence, and went to sleep... Only to be haunted some more by dreams.
“Hey, Scout,” Twilight said, coming back with a rabbit in his mouth. I smiled at him, “Hi.” “What’s up?” He asked randomly, dropping the rabbit at my feet. “Not much... You?” It was sort of a stupid question, seeing as we spent as much time with each other as possible... But it didn’t really matter. He shrugged, “Just thinking about my family.” “You’re family?” I asked. He nodded, “I had two sisters...” “What were they’re names?” “Diana... She died a long time ago... And Melody, I haven’t seen her in a long time.”
I woke with a start, staring at Melody. Oh Gosh. I thought, stunned, Melody is Twilight’s brother. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .....................◊
I didn’t mention it to her. I couldn’t bear to tell her that her brother was dead. That, and I didn’t need to cause problems in someone else’s life too. But it was Melody who brought it up. “Look,” she said to me, “I have a question.” I shrugged, “Go ahead.” “I’m looking for my brother... I need to know, have you heard of him? His name is Twilight.” I flinched involuntarily. “Yes.” I said, my voice flat and dull, “I have heard of him.” Melody brightened, “Have you seen him? Is he alright? How is he? Where is he?” I looked at her, my stormy gray eyes sad, “Twilight was my mate.” Melody looked at me, shock starting to burn in her eyes, “He’s... Dead?” I nodded, “An elk kicked him in the head. There was nothing I could do.” My voice had turned cold, but it was quiet. Very quiet. And I walked away, not caring if Melody had heard or not. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ........................◊
Fade turned his head to look at the elk calf. It was dangerous to hunt elk by himself, he hadn’t hunted for elk since his mate, Rasha, had died. His dark burning eyes burned harder as he remembered her death – something had gone wrong in the birth of their pups. He had been unable to save her... He still blamed himself. Scout. The name of that red-gold she-wolf was still fresh in his mind. Isn’t Scout supposed to be a guy-name? He wondered. Scout. He remembered the furious desperation in her stormy gray eyes as she told him he was weak, that he would always be weak if he continued to force himself not to feel anything. You are the weak one, he thought, pretending he was shouting it in her face, You will always be weak... Only the strongest survive. And I will survive. I WILL. He remembered the fear upon her face as he had approached her, the moonlight lighting his black fur, reflecting upon his eyes. She had thought he was going to hurt her. As if I could, he thought bitterly, I will never be able to hurt anyone again... Not after Rasha He sighed to himself, and prepared to begin the hunt. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ...................◊

Sorry, I momentarily forgot I was posting this on here, XD Here are the next ones
--Chapter Seven— I kept walking, then broke into a run, ignoring Melody as she shouted for me to come back. I can’t take it anymore! I thought, angry with myself, Why does everything have to happen to ME? Why was I doing this? Why was I running away from my friends? Relax, said a voice in my head, You’re not running away. You just need... some time alone. I sighed, it was getting dark, the sky was turning from a bright gold to blue... Twilight. I sighed, remembering how my mate had always said this was his favourite time of day... And that his name had had nothing to do with it. I looked around, there were clouds in the sky, not the friendly puffy ones... The dark shadows that haunted the sky... Moving in, like we wolves did when we were hunting. I have to get back, I thought, Soon, before the storm comes. I got up, and started running in the direction in which I came. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
Fade leapt into action, chasing after the elk calf. He dodged through the adult elk, moving in on the juvenile elk. He heard the distressed cried of the elk as he hunted, as he moved in for the kill. But it didn’t matter. He didn’t feel anything. Not the adrenaline that was coursing through his veins, not the ferocious instincts that were taking over... He felt nothing. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
I ran, following my faint footprints in the hard ground. Hurry up! I screamed at myself, Before it’s too late! I ran and I ran... And then – “OW!” “What –?” “You ran into me!” “I what???” I looked at the wolf I had just run into. She was pitch black, except for the white on her paws. She was a large female, but her body was very slim, it looked like she would be able to run very fast, for a long time. She had bright amber eyes that sparked in the coming-dark. “Who are you?” I asked. The wolf looked at me calmly, “My name is Violet.” Violet looked at me, and I stared back. Finally, I regained my form, “Uhh, Umm... Look, there’s a big storm coming and I’m looking for my friends, have you seen them?” “What do they look like?” Violet asked, keeping her form. Now she was perfectly calm, her previous anger at me forgotten. “Eh, they’re both black, one’s got a gray chest, and the other has a gray paw.” Violet looked at me, smiling, “Yeah, I saw them earlier, they were shouting out someone’s name ‘Scout,’ I believe it was... Is that you?” I nodded, “Can you take me to where you saw them?” Violet nodded, “Let’s go, before all the Elements break loose.” I nodded again, and followed my new acquaintance. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
Fade leapt at the calf-elk, and cut its hide open easily with his powerful jaws. I am the Hunter. I am the ultimate fighting machine! I am powerful... Nobody can beat me! He thought gloriously as he killed the calf, snapping its neck with his jaws. The calf’s mother let out a distressed cry, but loped away with the others, leaving him to his kill. The rain had started to fall – he hadn’t noticed it, but he did now, even while the bloodlust was upon him. It started to come down harder, he lifted his head, there was no shelter here, out in the open plains. He was going to have to find some... soon. I could freeze out here, he thought, But I can’t leave the kill... He looked around, there was no cover in sight, not for miles on end. Not a single bush. He suddenly realized what a strange place it was for the elk to stay. What could have driven them here? He wondered. Something flashed in the sky. There was a crack of thunder. He looked up, and saw the lightning blaze in the sky, sending the clouds alight... A crack in the universe. He looked around, the rain started to come down harder, until it pounded against the ground, as though it were trying to wear it away to get at whatever lay beneath. Fade was soaked within minutes. There is no shelter... He thought, I could get killed if I get too cold... He looked at the dead calf-elk, half devoured. He took several more gulps of the food – since he didn’t know when he would eat again – then he looked around. Far in the distance, there was a thin line of black. The Dark Mountains, He thought, Where the wolves say earth touches sky. He got up, looked at the kill, and started walking towards the black mountains that jutted out of the surface out of the earth. To the sky. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
I looked around, the rain was pounding against me, I hoped that Violet and I would find Shun and Melody soon. “This is where I saw them,” Violet said. I nodded, but my friends were nowhere to be seen. “I can’t see them,” I said, “We’ll have to call them. Hopefully they’ll recognize my howl... If they’re nearby.” Violent nodded, “Let’s do this.” I opened my mouth, raised my head to the sky. My loud, heart-breaking howl pierced the air, a cry of desperation in the night. I heard another howl, this one beautiful, more on key. Just as loud as mine, but it overrode mine, taking control, a cry of freedom, joy, and liberty. I changed the tone of mine, making it so it harmonized with Violet’s, and we howled in the storm, as the lightning flashed in the sky. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
Fade raised his head as he heard two howls pierce the night. He recognized one of the voices immediately, for her voice was imprinted in his mind, no matter how hard he tried to erase it from existence. Scout. She was howling, but he didn’t know why. Had she joined a pack? Did she have a new mate? Was she claiming a territory? He sighed, looked longingly in the direction the howls had come from, and kept walking. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
“How long until they get here?” I asked, annoyed. “It depends on how far away they are,” Violet said. “All we can do is wait.” And so we did. But I swear, I heard a longing, mourning howl cut through the air as it was carried across the winds... From the direction of the Dark Mountains. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
--Chapter Eight—
I waited, trying to ride out the storm with Violet in the pounding rain. “Shun!” I called, “Melody!” I knew that they probably wouldn’t hear me, seeing as I could hardly hear myself in the howling wind. It felt my breath being stolen away by the strong, cold wind. Usually my thick red-gold fur protected me from the wind, but now, it swept through me, causing me to shiver in the unbearable cold. I could tell that Violet was cold as well, that she felt the frozen wind just as much as I did. We huddled together, sharing body warmth. I’m glad that you’re not a guy, Violet, I thought, Otherwise this would be really awkward. I grinned sheepishly to myself, there I was, lost in the middle of a storm, without Shun or Melody, and I was thinking of how glad I was that Violet was a girl. Typical me. “Shun!” I continued to call, “Melody! We’re over here?” But I knew it was no use, they would never be able to hear me. Our only hope of finding them was that they had heard the howl. I looked around, even with the trees that helped shelter us, all I could think about was the cold. I looked to the West, where the Dark Mountains lay. But between this forest and the mountains, was a vast plain. I felt sorry for any wolf that was there now, isolated, and perhaps alone. Violet was breathing hard in her sleep, whereas I was wide awake, hoping that my other friends would find us. I sighed and laid my head on the ground, content to simply wait. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
Fade looked around, the wind blew through his thick black fur, making him shiver. I can’t escape this, he thought, If only I had seen it before it was upon me. Then I might have been able to at least get a head start. The Dark Mountains were still a long ways away. Even if he ran the whole time, it would take him at least another couple days to get to their tall, craggy peaks. He glanced to the dark sky, as the lightning lit up the nighttime clouds, they seemed to become aglow with the light, giving him haunting chills. He wondered what could have caused such a storm... Why is was striking now. Fade scanned the horizon, searching for any shelter at all, a bush, a broken tree, a log... It didn’t matter, but he needed shelter... Otherwise he risked freezing. Keep moving, his instincts told him, At least if you move, blood will keep pumping. He looked to the sky again, troubled. But he continued to keep walking, away from the forest where Scout was now, away from his former territory, away from his life... Away from his memories. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
When morning came, the storm had not settled. I could hardly see the sun behind the thick, dark gray clouds. It was simply a faint light in the sky... Nothing more. But at least I could see better. We wolves were good at seeing in the dark, much better than most animals were, but I still found it easier to see in the daytime. The rain still came down hard, but the wind had settled down a little bit, allowing at least a chance of Shun or Melody hearing me. “Shun!” I cried, “Melody! Where are you?” “Scout?” I jumped, not expecting an answer. Shun came out of the shadows, “Scout! Melody! It’s Scout, I found her!” I looked at him in the rain, he, like I, was soaked to the bone, his black fur hung from his sides, but his eyes were genuinely happy. “Shun!” I cried, leaping up and running towards him, wagging my tail. I heard Violet get to her feet from behind me, she was wary of him... Very weary. Melody came next, “Scout!” She said, wagging her tail, hard. I wagged my tail back, a signal of happiness, “I’m so glad we found you!” “‘We?’” Melody asked, “We?” “My name is Violet,” said my friend, coming up to stand beside me, “Scout sort of ran me over and then asked where her friends were.” I grinned sheepishly, “Yeah. I kind of asked her to help me find you guys.” Shun smiled, “No problemo.” Violet looked around awkwardly, “Err, I should probably be going...” She turned around and walked away, but I spoke before she was gone, “Violet – would you like to stay with us? I mean, travel with us for a while?” Violet turned and looked at me, her bright amber eyes shining, “I’d love to,” she said softly, “Thank you.” I smiled at her, “No problemo,” I said, echoing Shun’s words. Though the rain was still falling, it was gentler now, more of a sprinkle that tickled my back. Friendlier, happier. Like my life. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .....................◊
Fade looked around, the rain was falling gentler now, like whispers in the wind. The thunder had stopped crackling in the sky, and he was glad for that. With the thunder, he wouldn’t have been able to hear any danger that might be coming. He sighed, thinking of Scout. But he had to keep going, otherwise he would eventually stray from the path he walked. I have to follow my destiny... And that destiny leads me to the Dark Mountains. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊
--Chapter Nine—
“So, guys,” I said, “Where should we go?” My four friends shrugged, “Wherever the wind takes us,” Violet said, grinning. Melody looked at her, “Well the wind is blowing that way –” She flicked her tail in the direction of the Dark Mountains, “So you’re saying you want to go there?” Violet grinned, “No, Melody, I was joking. I don’t know where we should go.” I looked towards the dark shapes that jutted out of the earth towards the sky. As a pup, I had always wanted to go there… I wondered what secrets that they might hold… As a pup, my father had been killed by a large wolf who had fought, because he’d wanted my mother for a mate. My father had fought – and lost. And my mother had been heartbroken, especially after my aunt, Bellatrix had abandoned us, though I couldn't blame her. As a pup, I had always wanted to go and find that wolf, to avenge my father… To find out why the wolf had killed him, as my mother had said that the wolf said something about “I keep my promises.” I had no memories of the fight, only a shriek of pain as my father died, that stayed with me for the rest of my pup-hood, and still echoed with my mind now. My mother had also said something of the Dark Mountains. I had never really thought about it now… Especially not since Twilight had been killed. “The Dark Mountains,” I finally said, “That’s where I want to go.” Shun looked at me like I was a psychopath, “The Dark Mountains? Scout, you’re got to be crazy!” Melody nodded, agreeing with Shun, “That place is dangerous, Scout, we can’t go there.” “Why not?” I asked, “Why is it dangerous?” “Some say there is a pack of wolves there… They prefer to hunt at night, and are very aggressive,” Shun said quietly, glancing around as though he thought the trees were spying on him. “So their evil?” Violet chirped up. “No, Violet,” Melody said quickly, “No wolf is ‘evil.’ As far as I’m concerned, there is no such thing as ‘evil.’ They are a bit more aggressive than normal… That’s all.” “So you don’t want to go there, because there are ‘aggressive’ wolves?” I asked. Shun looked at me, “Scout, don’t sound so sceptical. These wolves are dangerous, they have truly gone mad.” I looked at him, “Well who’s up for a little adventure?” I asked, “Because I am.” Violet brightened immediately, “Sure! I’d like to see these so-called ‘evil’ wolves.” Melody sighed, “Violet, their not evil, they are just aggressive.” “Whatever,” Violet said, grinning, “Their aggressive and they might want to kill us… So what? My life’s been pretty boring, so why not go out for an adventure?” Melody sighed, her dark burning amber eyes were wary, “Fine then, but I swear, if you get into trouble with them, I’m not coming to rescue you.” Shun sighed as well, “I’m with Melody on this one. Going there is suicidal… But then again, I could do with a little excitement before I grow old.” We started walking towards the Dark Mountains. As we walked, I asked Shun, “Why are the wolves so… Aggressive?” “They are diseased,” He said, “The disease has driven them mad, so that they are constantly fighting and passing it on.” “What is it called?” I asked, What kind of disease could drive a wolf mad? Shun paused and looked at me, “It has many different names, but to the wolves… It is called ‘rabies.’” I stopped in my tracks. “Oh. Now I see why you didn’t want to go.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ......................◊

Your wishes are my command. =) Here they are... Glad ya liked the last ones. --Chapter Ten— The wind blew harshly, whipping through my red-gold fur, This was a bad idea, I thought, This is the worst idea you’ve ever had. I fought the harsh winds as it tried to blast us back, as we attempted to cross the wide, flat plains. It was raining again, and I was struggling to keep my will to go on. Shun was far ahead, scouting. “Shun!” I yelled, “Can you see anything?” He stopped at looked at me, “Whaaaaaaat?” “I said, CAN-YOU-SEE-ANYTHING?” “NO!” He yelled back, forcing his voice to rise over the wind, “There’s nothing for miles!” I sighed, “OKAY! THANKS!” Violet and Melody were beside me, struggling to fight this amazingly strong, powerful, element. I will never underestimate the power of Wind again, I thought. “GUYS!” I finally yelled, “LET’S HUNKER DOWN FOR THE NIGHT!” Shun came back, nodding “Good idea… But we have no shelter.” I frowned, at the beginning of the day, the plains hadn’t looked so big, so… Forbidding. Now they looked vast, vast, and threatening. “We’re wolves,” I said, “We don’t’ need to shelter.” Shun nodded, and so did Melody. We all laid down, flattening ourselves against the ground and trying to fall asleep. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
Fade looked around, the wind was blowing hard. He would have to stop. But I’m almost there… He stopped, looking back. It’s too cold… I have to stop… Slowly he stopped, and laid down in the short grass, hoping to wait out the storm. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
“Excuse me?” Said a voice from above me, “I believe that you are intruding on my territory.” My stormy gray eyes snapped open to see a male wolf looking down at me. He jumped to my paws and quickly assessed him. He was lean, yet well-muscled, even I could tell that. His fur was a gorgeous shade of golden-brown, but in the bright sunlight, it shimmered like pure gold, and his eyes were a glittering shadow of amber-gold, they looked at me, half hostile, half something else. “Who are you?” Demanded Melody, “What do you want?” I looked at her calmly, “Mel, relax. There’s four of us, and only one of him.” “Yeah right,” the wolf said sarcastically, “Because I would really start an argument with four other wolves, when I’m the only one here. Pa-lease.” The wolf paused, and I opened my mouth to say something, but he cut me off. “Misaki, Brightberry!” He called, “All’s safe!” I gaped as two she-wolves appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The first was small, and fragile-looking, with long, lustrous pale gray fur, but I noticed it was just barely tinged with black. She had golden eyes that shimmered in the bright daylight. The second was about the same size, but she appeared to be younger. She had bright reddish brown fur with bright gold eyes that looked at me in a hostile way. “Leon,” the gray one said quietly, “Who are these wolves?” Leon – whom I assumed to be the golden male – turned to look at the gray she-wolf. “Misaki, it’s alright.” The wolf called Misaki nodded, “Alright.” She seemed to trust this sarcastic, smart-mouth, golden, undeniably handsome – Would you just shut up? I told myself. If that’s Misaki, I thought, Then the reddish one is Brightberry… Brightberry looked at me suspiciously, and I glared back. “What do you want, Leon?” I asked. He looked at me, mock surprise in his eyes, “How’d you figure out my name? I thought I was the smart one.” I glared, “I’m not an idiot, Misaki said your name. And since there’s no other guys here, I’m guessing –” “That dude over there is a guy,” Leon pointed out, “Otherwise that’s one hunky girl.” Shun bristled, “Don’t push it.” I waved my tail, a signal for Shun to relax, “What do you want?” “Like I said, you’re in my territory,” Leon said arrogantly. “Except you haven’t got a mate,” Melody said. “You can’t claim a territory until you’ve got a mate and den-site.” Leon tossed his golden head, “I can’t, can I? Well forgive me for saying I had, your highness.” I bristled, “Watch what you say, Leon. If you go too far, things might not end well for you.” Violet nodded, “Watch what you say, Lion.” “The name’s Leon, not Lion.” “Close enough,” Violet said, her voice now teasing. “What do you want?” Leon sighed dramatically, “Well, since you high wolves are asking a higher wolf like me what I want, do you mind if we travel with you?” I narrowed my eyes, He is starting to tick me off. Shun leaned in to whisper in my ear, “Don’t let him, Scout. We don’t need him mouthing off when something important comes up.” I gave Shun a nod, but I wasn’t going to turn down a chance for more hunters to join us, “Fine,” I said, “But if you get lost, or hurt, or whatever, we’re not slowing down for you.” Leon scoffed, “I don’t need a bunch of girls to take care of me.” “I’m not a girl!” Shun said indigantly. This is going to get interesting. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
There were trees in the distance, Fade could see them, he was almost there. The wind had died down, now it was only a gentle breeze that tousled his black fur. He forced himself forwards, tired, bedraggled, and physically exhausted, he kept going. I’m almost there. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
“Would you just be quiet?” I snarled at Leon, He’s starting to get on my nerves. Leon mocked a hurt look, “If her highness wishes,” he said with a sly, arrogant grin. I swear someday that mouth of his is going to get him into trouble. I sighed exasperatedly and ran forwards to where Misaki and Brightberry were talking as they walked. “So where did you guys come from?” I asked. Misaki looked slightly uncomfortable, but spoke freely, “My life has been very complicated, in short, I grew up in a violent pack. Ran away. Had pups, but I’m pretty sure they were killed.” I stiffened, “My story is very similar to that… My mate died not so long ago, and my pups came shortly later, but they were too early… And they died.” Misaki looked at my sympathetically, “I am sorry…” I nodded, “I appreciate the sympathy, but your story is probably worse than mine.” Brightberry looked at me, “I don’t actually remember a lot of my life… I don’t remember much of my puphood… For me, it’s be loner, loner, loner.” I nodded, “Alright then.” I had a feeling that these two she-wolves, along with Melody and Violet, would become close friends. Far behind me, I heard Shun shout, “I’m not a girl!” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
--Chapter Eleven—
Finally, the plains seemed to be starting to end. Trees were starting to appear here and there, with every step Fade took, he grew closer to the Dark Mountains, to his destiny… Possibly to his death. Fade looked around, the trees that grew here were mostly old pines and spruces. Many of them look very frail, like they would blow over at any moment. He kept going, towards the pack. Towards his fate. His destiny. His father. His brother. Quite possibly his death. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
I looked around, the wind wasn’t as hostile, as wild anymore, it was now a gentle breeze that ruffled my red-gold fur. I saw Brightberry and Misaki walking together, however Violet was there too, being her usual, friendly self. I was walking with Melody, who seemed to be very suspicious of Leon, and no offense to him, but I kind of was too. I guess you could say I didn’t trust beautiful boys, they were unnerving, and they were always so darn arrogant! The golden wolf was padding at the front of the group, as though he had appointed himself leader, but I wasn’t going to argue, if he started talking about leadership and bravery, he would never stop. Shun was slightly behind Melody and me, he was slightly tense about the fact Leon was so… confident, and sure of himself. It didn’t help that Leon kept calling him a girl. I sighed, wondering about Leon. Where did he come from? Why is he so confident and sure of himself? Why do Misaki and Brightberry trust him? Melody and I walked in silence, not saying anything. We just enjoyed the scenery, if that was at all possible, seeing as there hardly was any scenery to look at. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
Fade growled to himself as he entered the Dark Mountains through a canyon, well-hidden among the dark peaks of the mountain-range. This was no place to get lost, if you did, odds were, you wouldn’t get out. He muttered about curses and mad wolves, and bristled and snarled at every twig that snapped. Each time a bird chirped, he whirled, ready for an attack, but each time, there was none. Fade breathed in deeply, he could smell them, the wolves who were diseased, their scent was fowl, it stung his nose so much that he momentarily stopped breathing, just to relieve himself of the stinging sensation. Finally, he breathed in again, and followed the scent towards their territory. If they were smart, they would be patrolling it, but these wolves were sick, they did not know what was real, and what wasn’t. They were vicious. They were rabid. They were mad. He found a scent marker, and decided that he would wait there, if he crossed the border, there was a large possibility that he would be killed before he got a chance to explain why he was here. Fade sat down, and waited. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
We stopped for the night, and we all quickly fell asleep, but mine was filled with ominous nightmares about rabid wolves tearing apart my friends, tearing apart Fade. In the most vivid, I saw… Well, let me explain fully.
I watched in horror as several wolves rushed in around us, they started growling and snarling, their mouths frothing with foam. First, they targeted Misaki and Brightberry. “No!” I cried as they started to attack, and no matter how hard Brightberry and Misaki fought, they could not win. I whimpered softly as the wolves retreated from my two friends, who were now two twisted, lifeless shapes against the yellow grass. Next they targeted Leon and Violet. “NO!” I begged, “Please, stop!” I howled in utter defeat as my friends were killed. The rabid wolves continued their furious rampage on my friends, until I was the last one left. The very last two wolves to go were Shun, and Fade. They closed in on me, “You’re next,” One whispered, and then leapt forwards.
I woke up, breathing hard and panting. That was the most horrible dream I’ve ever had, I thought grimly. Is… Is bringing them to the Dark Mountains a mistake? Maybe I should go on by myself… At least they wouldn’t get hurt. But when I looked over my sleeping friends and their peaceful, innocent faces, I knew I couldn’t leave them. I felt like they were my responsibility now. I had to take care of them. I couldn’t leave them. It just wouldn’t happen. I will never leave you guys… I thought, Never in my lifetime. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊
“Who are you?” Growled a hostile, fierce voice from the shadows. Fade whirled, it was one of Them. One of the wolves that had been infected by the disease. He was large and pure white, with foggy, unfocused eyes. But through the fogginess in them, he could see the feral ferociously. “My name is Fade,” he answered fiercely, sizing up the large wolf. “What do you want?” Asked the wolf, mouth starting to froth. “I ask permission to come and speak with your leader,” Fade growled. “Permission denied.” “You don’t understand, you have to let me through!” “No I don’t, now get out of here before I kill you myself.” Fade bristled and took a step back, “Fine then.” The wolf nodded, “I suggest you leave here, or die.” He shook his head frustratedly, but obeyed. He padded away, thinking, This isn’t over yet. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- .........................◊

Sorry for the double post, XD Here they are. =)
--Chapter Twelve—
We all entered the Dark Mountains, on edge. We had no idea what was waiting for us… but I knew that it couldn’t be good. I came here to find answers, and I was going to find them… But at what cost? I had no answer to that, I could not answer myself. I couldn’t come up with an answer that was not horrific. And only the Elements know that I hate horrific stuff. Beside killing and eating elk. I do that for a living. The tall, black cliffs rose all around us, we were in a canyon, and I felt so… trapped. Like I was going to be ambushed at any moment. Like that at any time I might get killed, or get one of my friends killed. I sighed, and kept walking, ignoring the fact that Leon was watching me. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
Fade padded away from the wolf, wondering just how he was going to get into their territory without being killed. He had to speak with their dominant male, it was extremely important. He sat down and started to think. “Hello?” Asked a tentative voice from behind him. He whipped around and saw a silvery coloured female looking at him curiously. She had long, lustrous fur that was silvery with tints of smoke-colours, she was small, even for a female, and had very large ears. Almost abnormally large. Her paws looked as though they had been dipped in ash, or as though she had walked a million miles through a wasteland of ash. But they gave her a nice effect, it seemed to make her ‘lady-like.’ Her eyes were bright gold, but faded into dark green around the edges. “Who are you?” He demanded, “What are you doing?” “Relax,” the wolf said cheerfully, “I’m just here to help your sneak into their territory, I mean, I know the place pretty well and it looks like you don’t, so…” Fade stopped bristling and asked her in a gruff voice, “What’s your name?” “Smokey,” She said, “Pleased t’meet you!” He took a step back, surprised, “Err, my name’s Fade.” She smiled, “Well it’s nice to meet you, Fade!” He looked at her, his blazing amber eyes had a weirded out expression in them. “Umm… Yeah. So you said something about getting me into their territory?” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
“Would you just shut up, Leon!” I snarled, lashing my tail angrily. Leon closed his mouth and looked at me innocently. “Well don’t just stare innocently at me like that!” I growled. “You told me to shut up,” he said, grinning that arrogant, confident grin of his. “So I did.” I whipped around and snarled at him, “I liked it better that way. Now stop bugging me.” He looked at me, his expression was still innocent. “Bugging you? Now why would I do such a thing?” I glared, “Nevermind. Just stop calling Shun a girl, and stop bugging everyone, got it?” Leon nodded, “Who knew girls could get so cranky?” He said thoughtfully to himself, and I ignored him, staying running ahead to speak with Violet. “That Leon sure is something,” she mused. I nodded, “He’s starting to really tick me off.” “Poor Shun,” she said, “Leon keeps calling him a girl.” I nodded, Shun, who was ahead, was pointedly ignoring whatever insults Leon threw at him, I wondered why Leon seemed to dislike Shun so much, but it wasn’t my business so I didn’t ask, and he didn’t say. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
“Intruder!” Snarled a huge, bristling gray wolf, charging towards Fade, mouth slavering with foam. Fade bristled, Smokey was hanging out further away from the center of the territory, the center of the territory was mainly where the rabid wolves hung out. “Watch it, pal. I don’t want to have to rip your throat out.” The wolf bristled and snarled, foam dripping from his muzzle. Gross. Thought Fade disgustedly. These wolves definitely are sick, but it’s too late now… Perhaps it’s not a horrible disease. “What do you want?” Demanded the mad wolf, snarling and bristling like crazy. “I need to speak with your leader,” Fade said, “It’s urgent,” he added. The wolf narrowed his eyes, “You do realize how dangerous we are, right?” Fade nodded, “I know... Probably because I was once one of you.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
“Whereabouts are we?” I asked Shun, “Do you know?” He looked at me, “I don’t know exactly, but I think we’re in a mountain pass that the wolves usually call ‘Black Pass.’ It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why it’s called that.” I nodded, “Alright then… Do you know where their territory is?” Shun nodded, “I came here once a long time ago, I was lucky to get out.” I nodded, Mental note: Make sure that nobody gets into mortal danger. Yeah right, said a little voice in my head, You’re walking straight in to it. These wolves could be sick, you might not be sure of it, but there’s a good chance they are. I narrowed my eyes, annoyed with this little voice of logic. “Alright then,” I said, “How far away is it?” “About a day’s journey.” I sighed, and made a decision, “Shun, when I go into their territory, I want you guys to stay behind.” His eyes widened, “Scout, you can’t be serious, they could kill you!” “And it’ll be my choice,” I answered defiantly. “You say they are sick, but they might not be. If I die while I’m in there, it’s my fault, but I will NOT be responsible for getting you guys killed, okay? You’re staying here, and that’s final. Understand?” Shun narrowed his eyes at me, but nodded, “Okay then,” he said sharply, “Fine. Get yourself killed and leave us here, we’ll be fine.” He ran ahead, and I could feel the anger sparking off his pelt. I sighed and fell back, thinking he would come back soon, then I noticed Leon coming up beside me. “What’s up with her?” He asked, grinning at his insult to Shun. “Would you just stop with the insults towards Shun!” I burst out, “It’s cruel, and your being a bully, and I don’t tolerate bullies here.” Leon shrugged his golden shoulders, his bright golden eyes were sly, “Alright then, I guess I’ll leave.” He padded away from me, and I stopped, horrified. What have I done? --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
The gray wolf gaped, “You used to be one of us? H-how did you get away?” Fade narrowed his eyes, “I ran. This place was too violent for me. I quickly realized that this was not the place I wanted to spend my life in.” The wolf narrowed his eyes, “Traitor,” he hissed, and rammed into him. Fade tried to dodge, he had felt it coming, but he was too slow, the wolf pinned him underneath his massive weight, and Fade quickly felt what he knew to be certain death coming. And if not death… Madness. The wolf started to lower his jaws towards Fade’s throat, but a voice stopped him. “Razor, enough.” The wolf growled in a crazy-mad way and got off of Fade, letting him up. Fade whipped around towards the familiar voice, and stared the wolf just as white as he was black, in the face. Fade said coldly, “Hello, father.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
--Chapter Thirteen—
What have I done? I thought, horrified. Leon was already gone, and Shun had gone off by himself. Relax, I told myself, Shun just needs some time alone. But that night, he didn’t come. “Scout,” Melody and Violet asked at once, “Where’s Shun?” “Yeah,” said Brightberry worriedly, “Leon’s gone too.” I stiffened, “I had a fight with Shun, and he ran off.” “And he hasn’t come back?” Asked Misaki, “Surely he would have come back by now, right?” That’s what I thought, I said to myself, I was stupid, I told myself he would come back, but he’s not here and we’re in the middle of unfamiliar territory, near a bunch of rabid wolves… I growled to myself, frustrated, This is all my fault! I thought furiously, If I hadn’t insisted that we come here, Shun wouldn’t be gone, and Leon wouldn’t have even come into my life! But do you really want that? Whispered a voice inside of me, Do you really wish that you hadn’t met Leon? Yes! I answered myself immediately, I wish I had never – no. I don’t. He might be really annoying and he might always mouth off, but he’s part of the family now, just like Brightberry and Misaki are. I finally got a grip on myself and answered, “I thought he would too, that’s why I didn’t worry, and Leon… it sounded like he was leaving for good.” Violet groaned, “Typical Leon.” I nodded, Very typical of him. Melody looked concerned, “We have to find Shun. I don’t know how well he knows this territory, he could get lost, or worse, found by those wolves.” I nodded, “We have to find Shun.” “What about Leon?” Asked Misaki. I sighed, Why does she always have to worry about him? I paused and answered myself almost immediately, Because their friends, of course she’s worried. “I don’t know, Leon… I think he can take care of himself, for a while at least.” Brightberry nodded, “Of all of us, Leon is the one who’s most capable of taking care of himself.” Yes, he is, I told myself, Leon will be able to manage for a while. “So where do we start searching for Shun?” Asked Melody, regaining her serious, fierce attitude. “I don’t know,” I said, shaking my head, “He could be anywhere. Right now, we have to wait, Shun can take care of himself, but tomorrow, we start searching.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
“Fade,” said the white wolf in an equally cold voice, “How pleased I am to see you back here.” Fade took a weary step back, unsure of what to say. Before, there had been no trace of any disease here, but now it was everywhere, it was visible in the stiff movements of the wolves who were slowly losing movement in their legs, he could see it in their emaciated bodies how they had lost their appetite and did not eat. But now, he knew it had been a horrible mistake to come here. You have to leave, soon, Fade, soon. Finally, forcing himself to speak, Fade said, “I am pleased to be back here.” “What do you want?” Snarled his father, bristling, his eyes glazed over with a crazed fury. “Nothing, Storm, nothing.” Was his answer. Storm narrowed his cold yellow eyes, “Then leave, before I kill you myself.” Fade bristled as Storm started to turn, “Wait.” Storm turned, “What is it?” Fade dipped his head, “I seek your allegiance. I wish to… rejoin.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
“Shun!” I called, “SHUN!” We had spread out, searching for Shun, one of my closest friends, the friend I had taken for granted. I would never do so again, if I ever found him. Where could he be? I thought desperately. Shun, where are you? “SHUN!” I heard the far-away call from Melody as she searched. “Shun?!” I shouted again, “Come back! Please!” There was no answer. Come back! I pleaded with my mind, Please! “Shun!” I yelled desperately, “SHUN!”
A long time passed, at least two days, and we found nothing. There was no trace of Shun. None at all, the same went for Leon. We were all frustrated, seeing as without Leon, things were just plain boring, and without Shun, things seemed just… Empty. Finally, I had to call the search off, “Guys,” I said, “We have no idea where they are, we can’t find them. For now, we have to keep going.” Melody looked about to argue, but didn’t, “Fine,” she said in a tired voice, “Let’s keep going on this mission of yours.” --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
“So where were you?” Asked Graphite curiously. Graphite was dark gray with light flecks that dappled his coat, he was large and surprisingly agile for his size and strength. Graphite was usually quite gruff, but he could be friendly and quite fun once you got to know him. “Yeah!” Wildheart said, her gray-blue eyes shining with curiosity. Wildheart was another one of those hostile, mistrustful wolves, but she was actually quite friendly and fun once she trusted you. She had a tan-gold pelt and gray eyes, with tints of blue here and there. “Yes,” added Blame, “I would like to know.” Blame was large and muscular, the oldest of the four, being five years old. He had a pelt just as black as Fade’s and bright amber eyes that danced and flared when he was having fun. He was usually quite hidden and secretive, not saying much, but now he seemed honestly curious. Fade shrugged, “I decided it was time to leave. My father was going mad with that disease and he was taking it out on me.” Blame nodded, totally understanding. “What did you do?” Asked Wildheart, “I mean, once you got away.” These three wolves that Fade had known all his life were the three wolves that were only here because they had been forced to. He knew the law of this pack well, if an intruder entered the territory, they either joined, or were killed. These three were some of those accidental trespassers, who had joined to save their lives. Though they had stayed with this pack, it was because they had nowhere else to go. Fade shrugged again, “I traveled for the longest time and got a mate.” Graphite gave him a quizzical look, “And…?” He asked. “She died.” Fade’s voice was flat. “Along with the pups. She died giving birth to them.” Wildheart looked down, “I am sorry,” she said softly. “It’s okay,” Fade said, trying to stay strong, “I am no longer the weak wolf I once was.” “What do you mean?” Blame asked suspiciously, shooting Fade a question look. “I mean that I no longer feel emotion for any other wolf. Emotion is a weakness, to be strong, I must not feel.” Fade’s voice was gruff, it told them that he didn’t want to talk about it anymore. Graphite nodded, “I see,” was all he said. Blame and Wildheart just nodded, they had nothing to say, and Fade knew it. At least they are not so insensitive as some, he thought to himself. Without even making a choice, a single word popped up in his mind. Scout. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
Leon stopped walking and sat down. Sure, she kicked you out. So what? He thought to himself, Why should you care? But he did care. The fact that Scout seemed to dislike him so much bugged him, it made him angry. Hardly any females had hated him that strongly, hardly any had been able to ignore him that way. Before Scout. Melody and Violet seemed to follow her lead as well. Although he knew Scout tried to make everything fair, and to let everyone have their say, he knew that she was the leader, that she was always the one to make the final decision. He knew where they were headed, how dangerous it was, and although usually he wouldn’t care, he did. Leon sighed, I’m going to have to stay here for the night. He laid down, resting his head on his golden paws, his bright gold-amber eyes glinting as the sun started to set. The last thing he thought before he fell asleep was: She called me a bully. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
Shun paced in the small clearing like a caged beast. What were you thinking? He thought angrily to himself, What in the world did you think you could do by leaving them? Make it so she wouldn’t go into that stupid territory? Because she will, and she will do it thinking she’s doing what’s right. Shun stopped, and sat down. This was a stupid idea, you were happier when you were with the pack. What if you went back and tried to convince her not to go in alone? Inquired a small voice in his mind. He shook his head to himself, No. She won’t listen, she’ll just go in and get herself killed. But you’re the only one who might be able to convince her not to. She’s known you the longest, she trusts you, Said the voice. Fine, He thought back, I’ll go back, but tonight I will rest. He closed his eyes and quickly fell asleep under the darkening sky. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
I woke to the sound of growling. I leapt to my feet and saw there was a dirty gray wolf staring at me. He had mean yellow eyes and a ragged gray-brown pelt. What the –? I thought. “Get out of my territory,” growled the wolf threateningly. Melody surged up to my side, “There were no markers, this is no-wolfs land.” The wolf growled, “This land belongs to the Black Singer’s Pack.” Violet came up, “What’s wrong?” “This dude just came up and claimed we’re on his land.” I answered. Brightberry and Misaki came up, Brightberry sized up the wolf, and said, “And you’re the dominant male of this ‘Black Singer’s Pack?’” The wolf snarled, “No, I am the son of the dominant though.” “What is your name?” I asked curiously, waiting for something comicly majestic. “Bitter Puddles,” the wolf answered gruffly. I burst out laughing, and Melody joined me, “Who named you? The fly over there, whats-his-name, Bob?” I asked, trying not to laugh so hard that I couldn’t breathe. Bitter Puddles lowered his gaze, “Who are you?” he inquired aggressively. “I’m Scout, this is Melody, Violet, Brightberry and Misaki. We’re looking for two friends of ours, one’s big and golden and is always mouthing off. The other is black with a gray chest, he’s quite friendly and polite. Seen them?” My voice was now low and serious. “No,” Bitter Puddles answered, “I haven’t.” I sighed, “Alright then, we’ll get out of your territory then, let us through.” “No,” Bitter Puddles answered, “You’re coming with me to see my father.” I shrugged, it wasn’t like one wolf was going to beat all of us up, but we were in his territory so I decided to give him the luxury of us not giving him any trouble. “Alright then, take-us-to-your-leader.” My voice doing my best to mimic the voice of the alien-wolf my mother had always told me stories about. --_--_--_--_--_--_-- ............◊
